Creative Science and EngineeringⅠ FeaturesⅡ History and ProfileⅢ RequirementsFundamental Science and EngineeringAdvanced Science and EngineeringCONTENTSGuidelines for earning a Master’s Degree1. To be granted a master’s degree, you must earn 30 or more credits, receive the required ◆ Environmental BiotechnologyDevelopment of novel isolation and cultivation techniques for uncultured environmental microorganisms. Elucidation of the principles behind the phenotypic heterogeneity exhibited by clonal bacterial populations. Application of bacteriophages to the therapy of bacterial infections. Elucidation of the function of bacterial RNA-cleaving enzymes and their application.◆ Cytoskeletal LogisticsThe research aims to investigate how the cytoskeleton is formed and how it functions. Cytoskeleton includes microtubule and actin, which are involved in many cellular events such as chromosome segregation in cell division, development and gametogenesis. In addition, we aim to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of cell fate determination, such as cell dormancy and awakening, and to engineer cells so that cell fate can be manually controlled. We finally aim to establish a molecular basis for treating diseases associated with abnormalities in the cytoskeleton and cell fate determination, and for contributing to assisted reproductive technologies for infertility.◆ Research on Cellular Architecture ImagingWe study the organisation of microtubule cytoskeleton, which contributes to cell morphology, tissue structure and disease. Our research relies on high-resolution cell imaging, combined with molecular cell biological techniques. Using mice and mammalian cultured cells, we are investigating how the functional organisation of microtubules in epithelial cells is controlled by microtubule-end binding proteins.◆ Research on NeuroimmunopharmacologyOur focus is: To study the physiological/pharmacological effects of drugs or natural compounds by the combination of in-vivo assessment (behavioral tests, genetically modified animals etc) and in-vitro analysis (tissue imaging, flow cytometry, etc). Our main molecular target is endogenous cannabinoid (endocannabinoid), and currently studying about how endocannabinoid will modulate immune systems and inflammation. Further, we are currently studying about the pharmacological effect of edible insect in mammals to understand the nutritional potential and safety of insects as the next generation food/protein resource.research guidance, and pass a master’s thesis review.2. Among the 30 credits required for the degree, 12 credits must be earned from seminar courses. Each academic year, you must take the seminar courses provided by your supervisor. If more than 12 credits of seminar courses are taken, credits in excess of 12 are not counted toward the number of credits required for the degree.3. Please consult with your supervisor regarding what other courses should be taken to fulfill the credit requirement toward your degree. 142142
